Chocolate Chunk Cookies
by Sue Zelickson, Tastemaker in Residence—Recipe from Gramma Zelickson’s Kitchen
When we were children we’d break apart the cookies, lining up the chocolate chunks on the kitchen table to see who would get the biggest piece! YUM!
Makes 3 to 4 dozen.
Ingredients
1/2 cup shortening (part butter)
6 TBSP brown sugar
6 TBSP granulated sugar
1 egg
1 cup plus 2 TBST all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup chopped nuts
8 ounces sweet or semi-sweet chocolate, cut into 1/4-inch pieces
Instructions
Heat oven to 375 degrees. Cream shortening and sugars; blend in egg. Combine dry ingredients; stir into creamed mixture. Stir in vanilla, nuts and chocolate. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls about 2 inches apart onto lightly greased cookie sheets. Bake 7 to 9 minutes. Let cookies stand on cookie sheet a minute before removing.
