Vintage Notes 

The 2018 vintage was a welcome respite from the previous season that saw scorching temperatures and devastating wildfires. This year brought excellent growing conditions that returned the region to a more normal climate. The weather was consistent and did not have any prolonged periods of extreme heat; this allowed the fruit to stay on the vine for an extended time.

A cool spring allowed for a consistent fruit set that was continued by a placid summer with moderate temperatures. This season once again required a good amount of leaf removal work and passes to thin fruit to the desired yield. 

Because the summer temperatures were moderate, this allowed verasion to start later in the season, resulting in a harvest that was two to three weeks later than it had been in the last few years. We harvested from late September to mid-October. This extra time allowed for the grapes to really mature and our patience rewarded us with a truly wonderful vintage.

In addition to our standard lineup, we once again are proud to include the third in our series of Spell Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. For the 2017 vintage, we used the same vineyard source as we did with our 2016 vintage. The weather in Napa was consistent with what was happening in Sonoma over the growing season. We could not have asked for a more picture-perfect season.
