Gung Hay Faat Choy! This is the Chinese New Year greeting which respectfully sends wishes of happiness and prosperity. According to the Chinese Zodiac calendar, associated with the lunar calendar, this year is the year of the Sheep.

Chinese New Year tradition says everything you eat on this day will dictate how your year will unfold. For example, fish is traditionally served because in Chinese the word fish (yoo) sounds like the word for surplus. Eating fish is supposed to bring a surplus of money and good luck in the coming year.

One of my favorite Chinese New Year’s superstitions is not sweeping on new year’s day because you might sweep all of the good luck out of your house.
