INGREDIENTS

  • 1 1/2 lb. beefsteak, cubed
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 cups milk

DIRECTIONS

  1. Cut beefsteak into cubes about 1" square, leaving a few larger.
  2. Season with salt and pepper and place in a shallow, well-greased baking dish.
  3. Spread cubes apart so that batter can run between them.
  4. Make a batter of remaining ingredients and pour over the beef cubes, making sure that some of the larger cubes have their "heads" sticking out of the batter.
  5. Bake in a 425° oven for 30 minutes.

Makes 4 servings.

Don't be discouraged by the Old English name. This is a very tasty dish!
