Virtual Easter Supper Club
by Cindi Sutter, Founder & Editor Spirited Table®
Welcome to the 2020 Virtual Easter Supper Club from Spirited Table®! Your Tastemakers in Residence provide you with decor, tabletop ideas, flower design tips and of course recipes: Five of today’s Easter recipes come from Daniel Paterna and can be found in his book, Feast of the Seven Fishes : A Brooklyn-Italian's Recipes Celebrating Food and Family is a timely reminder that a shared memory of food draws upon and enriches our souls.
So without further delay, here is your 2020 Virtual Easter Supper Club!
Kid proof Easter table settings are easier than you think. The glasses are plastic, the cups and saucers are from a kid's tea service, the containers came from Target, the eggs are either paper, stone or plastic, the green and orange bunny candle holders are plastic and the flowers are fake. The only thing that breaks is probably 20 years old; so they have had their share of kids, without a disaster. Little secret, all this is on top of an outdoor plastic table.
Frog Butler Table has plastic eggs, a stuffed bunny and a few dressier touches, that you can adapt for your table and guests!
Pink Garden Bouquet - How To Bouquet from Reba Berge! + Flowers vs Baked Goods = A face-full of floral pie by Ardith Beveridge.
Enjoy a few more ways to decorate your home and table. The hula hoop and ball with lots of jelly beans is courtesy of Ardith Beveridge. Ardith’s Gum Drop Tree is an experiment in fun. Find a tree and place gumdrops on the branches, then add a hula hoop to keep the kids occupied, plus plastic plates and glasses. Next up? You can set them up for Silk Tie-Dyed Easter Eggs, the eggs on the pink platter are blown out eggshells with decoupage and decorated with sparkles. These are fancy, but let the kids blow out the eggs, give them some stickers, glitter etc. and leave them to it! Easter at the Farm + A Hyper-Competitive Easter Egg Hunt. 2020 has not provided our normal lifestyle celebration moments. We won’t be able to celebrate Easter in our churches of choice, or with friends and other family members. So consider going around your Easter table and giving thanks for simply being healthy, safe and together!
Feast of the Seven Fishes author Daniel Paterna kicks off the first course with Peperoni con Pinoli e Capperi - There’s nothing like the fragrance of roasted peppers, pine nuts, and capers. If you are still contemplating a good Easter first course dish, or a generally delicious Spring dish, you must try the Fennel Egg Salad from Loon Organic Farms owner, Laura Frerichs.
Daniel’s second course is Funghi e Salsiccia Secca = Sautéed mushrooms and dried sausage. Vicki Brunsvold’s Roasted Red Pepper Hummus adds a light addition to the second course.
Daniel’s third course is Zuppa di Agnello = Lamb shank soup alla Pastore.
Daniel’s fourth course is Agnello Arrosto con Asparagi Arrosto = Roasted lamb with roasted asparagus.
Fifth Course - Now, what’s usually my favorite part of any meal…Dessert! Daniel’s dessert choice is La Pastiera Napoletana di Grano = Grain pie or Easter pie: It is made with grain, and usually cooked the day before it is served.
Mimi Levin’s Peanut Butter Chocolate Birds’ Nests provide a bite of chocolate topped with jelly beans!
Happiest of Easters to you and your family. Stay well and safely celebrate this most sacred Christian holiday!
