Houseplant Appreciation Day – Keeping your African Violet Happy.
by Reba Berge, Tastemaker in Residence
As you select a location for your African violet in your home, choose the brightest location you can, without putting it in direct sunlight. Make sure to water from the base of the plant in order to avoid getting any water droplets on the beautifully soft leaves. Keep in mind that African violets like humidity. If you want it to rebloom, you will need to fertilize it. The best practice is to use a mix that is specific to African violets. As your plant thrives, it will soon need to be divided. In order to divide your plant, pull it out of the pot and gently divide the soil to separate the roots. You will soon have a gallery of violets or gifts to give to your neighbors.
