Put a Little Bite into Summer

by Christina Meyer-Jax, Tastemaker in Residence

I love all fruits and veggies, but to be honest I like the ones with character the most. Oranges are wonderful, but blood oranges bring the extra shocking color that makes dishes and drinks memorable. Asparagus is a fantastic sign of spring and the bounty of summer produce on the horizon; it’s even better when you mix in some purple asparagus! It has a sweeter and nuttier flavor, and blows your mind with the unexpected color shift from the typical green.

But my favorite plant food with character is the radical radish! It brings color, crisp texture, and a zippy bite.  It’s kind of the trifecta of fun filled produce.

So as we transition from spring to summer, I challenge us to take on the radish, which can be pickled, roasted, and eaten raw. You can use every part of the radish; from leaf to bulb, in both warm food recipes and salads alike. They come in many different varieties, with a range of bite from mild to bold.

Low in calories, and full of fiber this powerhouse can spice up your summer in healthy and delicious ways!
