What's happening at Loon Organics Farm
by Laura Frerichs, Tastemaker in Residence
Loon Organics Farm is celebrating a successful season! If you’re interested in a CSA box for next year, you can find the information here. If you’re a CSA member, you receive lots of extra tips and recipes throughout the season, just like the ones below!
Produce Storage: How and Where to Store Your Produce for Maximum Freshness
Everything in your box (except the tomatoes and potatoes) should be stored in PLASTIC BAGS in your fridge to keep everything crisp. If stored properly, everything should last at least 7-10 days. Tomatoes and potatoes should stay out of fridge on the counter. Onions can either stay in fridge or stay out.
Preservation Tips: Check our website for a Cucumber Freezer Pickle Recipe or a Refrigerator Pickle Recipe. Tomatoes and peppers can be frozen raw. Tomato skins will fall off easily when thawing. Frozen tomatoes and peppers can be used for cooking: sauces, soups, chili. Cauliflower, broccoli, green beans and carrots can be blanched and frozen.
