Cabin Quest in Colorado

Nestled quietly in the mountains above Denver, Colorado, one can find an assortment of tiny, little towns and abandoned mining facilities. These places offer harried urban dwellers a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of the big city!
Scenic views are only the beginning of the adventure. Many tiny towns in Colorado host local history museums sharing their Old West culture and mining traditions. From one room schoolhouses to antique train cars, one can easily envision the path to the building of our nation.
In addition to sharing our cultural history, many towns are the origination point for a vast array of hiking and biking trails. In fact, Colorado boasts over 39,000 miles of trails of one kind or another. See Denver Post Details here.
I am lucky enough to have a sister and brother-in-law who live high up in the mountains in a little place called Bailey, Colorado. I wanted to visit, but didn’t want to fully impose; so, I went online and found a nearby cabin to rent while in the area. I found my rental at VRBO; but there is a variety of online options to use when picking a small, out of the way location (see Airbnb, Inspirato, HomeAway, and Sotheby’s for an assortment of price ranges, locations, and other options). And deer roamed through the yard every day of our stay at the cabin!
My favorite part of any trip, outside of spending quality time with my family, is experiencing quirky little shops and restaurants found in these communities. Besides the natural choice of gem and rock shops endemic to the Rocky Mountains, we found a whole store dedicated to Big Foot at The Sasquatch Outpost! We thoroughly enjoyed our time amongst the tall tales and tall mountains!
