W3 Book Club-"Finding Vivian Maier"

by Teri E. Popp & Laura Chin,  Tastemakers in Residence - "Finding Vivian Maier" by John Maloof

Hosted by:  Muffy MacMillan

An enigma of a woman and largely unknown as a photographer during her lifetime, Vivian Maier, an amateur in the photography field, lived most of her life in obscurity as a nanny for wealthy families.  After her death, John Maloof, a collector of antiques, happened to purchase some of her vast collection of photos at auction.  From this purchase, Maloof finally chronicled a fascinating tale of a woman and her life's work in both book and film in "Finding Vivian Maier."

A lover of documentary style films, and interested in the inspiration that various people offer through their personal passions, Muffy MacMillan, our host of this W3 Book Club meeting featured the movie in her in home theater.  She focused (pun intended) on photography and vintage cameras as a theme, and all of the book club ladies dug deep in their parents' closets to find the perfect old time lenses and gear.

Since Vivian lived in Chicago for a time, Muffy chose a menu heavy on Chicago flair:

*Lake View Crackers and Various Cheeses
*Lincoln Park Green Salad
*Famous Chicago-style Deep Dish Lou Malnati's Pizzeria Pizza shipped in from Chicago, including:  Pepperoni, Sausage, The Malnati Chicago Classic, and Cheese
*Skinny Cow Dessert Bars

This captivating evening offered all of the ladies of W3 a glimpse through the lens into the life of an interesting artist and her work!

Thanks Muffy for a great evening!
