Since its recent opening, I have wanted to visit the Smithsonian African American History Museum.  This incredible museum features a large assortment of displays, and interactive, educational activities covering African Americans in the United States from slavery through the Civil Rights Movement and current day achievements.  It should be noted that this museum is the hottest ticket in DC at present and, while the museum is free to the public, tickets must be reserved on line in advance at https://nmaahc.si.edu

After a full morning spent touring the African American History Museum, we decided to enjoy lunch and tour the National Museum of the American Indian.  This gorgeous architectural achievement, made of stone from Mankato, Minnesota, features constantly evolving exhibits from tribes from both North and South America.

Our final tour destination on our whirlwind time in DC featured the U.S. Capitol Building.  Our visit, courtesy of Senator Amy Klobuchar, included sights such as Sen. Klobuchar's office, the newly constructed Visitor's Center, the lower bowels of the Capitol Building, Senate Chambers, the Capitol Rotunda and featured a ride on the Senate trolley!  Vice President Biden and his entourage walked past us in the hallways, as well as an assortment of Senators and Representatives as it was a joint session of Congress that day!

We finished this fabulous trip by enjoying dinner at Jaleo, a casual tapas restaurant, and a basketball game featuring the Minnesota Timberwolves versus the Washington Wizards at the Verizon Center.
