A few years ago I was lucky enough to travel to Munich to attend the infamous Oktoberfest celebration. It was exactly what I had predicted it would be- large halls filled with cold beer, warm brats, large crowds, lederhosen, soft pretzels, and good conversation. Going to Germany to take part in this authentic festival again would be ideal, however, with my busy schedule I figured that I would bring Oktoberfest to my own backyard this year and you can too with these easy tips and tricks!

Beer
At Oktoberfest, everyone drinks out of a beer Stein, a large 1-liter glass. Believe it or not, you can purchase the very ones that they use at Oktoberfest on Amazon

Many liquor stores will start selling Oktoberfest beers during the fall. Pick some of these up and serve them in your steins!

Food
Since the celebration is usually an all-day event, the waitresses and waiters make sure to keep you well fed. My favorite food from Oktoberfest was the Bavarian pretzel and the bratwurst. You can pick up soft pretzels from the grocery store or make them from scratch- just serve them warm with cheese.

For dessert, don’t forget the apple strudel. This classic German treat will be sure to satisfy all of your guests.

Costume
You can’t have an Oktoberfest party without Lederhosen for men and dirndls for women. You can find both on Amazon!

If you don’t want to spend the money on traditional Oktoberfest garb, you can also make Oktoberfest-themed t-shirts for you and your friends.

Décor
Take the party outside if you can and set up a tent just like they do in Germany!
Party City usually offers great supplies for this event.

Music
Traditional German music is the key to making this event feel authentic and real. Again, you can find many different options on Amazon.

Follow my tips or make your own spin on these ideas and your guests will surely have a wonderful time!
