Nashville Hot Chicken Sauce

by Christina Meyer-Jax, Tastemaker in Residence

If you’ve even been to Tennessee, you know that Nashville LOVES their Hot Chicken recipes. I love making the sauce, as it’s versatile to use as a marinade for wings, brush on top of grilled meat, or as a veggie dipping sauce when combined with a little hummus and sour cream.

Ingredients

1/2 cup unsalted clarified butter

3 tablespoons cayenne pepper (adjust to taste preference)

2 tablespoons brown sugar

1 teaspoon salt

2 teaspoons black pepper

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

2 teaspoons garlic powder

1 Tablespoon honey or maple syrup

Instructions

  1. Combine clarified butter with the rest of ingredients in a heavy bottom saucepan. Stir over low heat until combined.

  2. Use immediately, or store in refrigerator for up to 5 days.
